Monday morning when Gretel went out to the garbage, she discovered this:

And then, partly to show R, who had already gone off to school, and partly because she didn't know what kind of spider it was and wanted to know, she decided to capture it! Scary!
I was there to take pictures and offer moral support, but had no desire to go anywhere near the thing! She is one brave woman!
Notice that this spider's leg span is about the same size as the length of her finger!

We found out later that this is a Huntsman Spider. Their bite won't kill you, as a few other Australian spider bites will, but it will inflict a lot of pain for a couple of days. We were told they can grow quite large, and when I checked Wikipedia, read that their leg span can grow to be 9-11 inches. Aach!!! I have to go faint now...

It looks like a lot of fun there minus the scary spiders! I would die!!! I have to tell you I was watching fear factor one day. They ate those spiders, LIVE! It was nasty! Hope all is well and you are having a great time.
I absolutly love Australia Sheridan, but I do know they have lots of dangerous stuff including snakes and spiders. It's what most Brit immigrants cant take and the Ausies call us whinging Poms!!
